Discover the wonders of Mikumi National Park, Tanzania’s fourth-largest and most accessible park from Dar es Salaam. Nestled between the stunning Uluguru and Lumango Mountains, Mikumi National Park and the Udzungwa Mountains typically combines high-intensity game drives with a physical rainforest trek. Most tours depart from Dar es Salaam or Zanzibar, utilizing either a 5–6 hour drive or the newer SGR electric train to Morogoro to save time.

Tour Plan
Early pickup (around 5:00 AM) from your hotel, airport to terminal in Dar es Salaam.
Travel: Drive approximately 5–6 hours from Dar es Salaam to Mikumi National Park, often stopping in Chalinze or Morogoro for lunch or Arrive at your lodge/camp for lunch and a short rest.
Late afternoon and sunset game drive in the Mkata Floodplain to spot lions, elephants, giraffes, and hippos at the Hippo Pools.
Dinner and overnight stay in the Mikumi area.
Main Destination: Mikumi National Park

Morning: After an early breakfast (6:00 AM), take a 1-hour drive to Udzungwa Mountains National Park.
Activity: Embark on the Sanje Waterfalls Trail, a popular 4-hour hike. The trail ascends through lush rainforest, offering chances to see endemic primates like the Udzungwa Red Colobus and Sanje Crested Mangabey.
Highlight: Reach the top of the 170m Sanje Falls for spectacular views of the Kilombero Valley. Many hikers bring swimwear for a dip in the natural plunge pools at the base.
Evening: Optional visit to a local Maasai village to experience traditional culture and dance. Return to Mikumi for dinner and overnight.

Early Morning: A sunrise game drive (starting around 6:30 AM) captures wildlife when they are most active.
Noon: Have a final lunch in the park or nearby town.
Afternoon: Begin the journey back to Dar es Salaam. If you are returning to Zanzibar, you will be dropped off at the airport for your evening connection
